Business angels are individual investors who provide capital for start-up firms. They are an important source of equity for small firms with growth potential in their early stages of development. Also the role of informal business angel investors in strengthening the company’s capacity to manage and absorb growth is now being recognized as pivotal to the growth of European economies. Many entrepreneurs need guidance on the advantages and disadvantages of alternative forms of finance and on how best to present their investment projects to potential financiers. How can Incubators support their clients by tapping into the resources of Business Angels Networks? SENSI organizes an interactive workshop with Business Angel Network experts to learn more about this topic:

Alberica Marzotto (EBAN): Alberica Marzotto is Project Manager of European Business Angel Network (EBAN). EBAN is an independent and non-profit association representing the interests of business angels networks (BANs), early stage venture capital funds and other entities involved in bridging the equity gap in Europe. EBAN was established with the collaboration of the European Commission in 1999 by a group of pioneer BANs in Europe and EURADA (the European Association of Development Agencies).

Sam Sezak (New Vantage Group, Vienna): Sam Sezak works as advisor for New Vantage Group. He co-managed a 30m Pound Cross Border Investment Fund (Seraphim Capital), 3 $10m Washington based Angel Investment Funds (Dinner Clubs), 2 Washington Based Angel Investment Pledge Funds (AAI & D’Archangels). He structured over 25 deals and served on Board as observer for over a dozen companies, including TerraCycle, PetsDx, Acuity Mobile, LHD Vending, LiveLOOK, China Springboard, C-Perl. In addition, he consulted and/or lectured early stage investment funds, in-formation angel groups, and entrepreneurs in Argentina, Slovenia, Croatia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, Colombia, Macedonia, Brazil, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

Blaz Kos (Slovenian Business Angel Network): Blaz Kos founded two companies in Slovenia in his early twenties, one in the printer remanufacturing business and one offering IT services. On the basis of his strong focus on start-up companies, the University of Ljubljana invited Blaz to work for their incubator as project manager. During three years he established the whole concept as well as the company’s projects. At the time of his departure the incubator was very well established and showed excellent results (over 2.000 workshop participants, over 50 business plans created, 3–5 new start-ups / per year). He works now as a general manager for the first formal business angel network in Slovenia which was established in June 2007. Moreover, he is a passionate lecturer, a recognized blogger and consultant.
